Graphic Design Assignment:  As part of my induction I was tasked with a mock brief, as to test my skills thus giving my employer somewhat of an understanding of my capabilities. I had no prior knowledge of this band prior to my assignment - so researched in to the band to better inform my creative process going forward. I figured that the best way to understand the band's current output would be to source an existing digital profile of the band. I looked them up on 'Discogs' :  'Discogs' is a website and online database of music -...

Progression: David Longworth Pitch:

Image
In our Skills Development lesson we were tasked with pitching an idea for a programmed that would hypothetically air on one of the BBC platforms.  I had the idea of making a radio show in which independent artists could play their music as to garner a following, this is an idea not currently in use by the BBC. I cited existing shows such as Fire In The Booth to show I have researched the current market. I feel like this helped me develop my communication skills as we had to present our ideas to David directly.

Progression: Networking: Sam Horton - 'Storyboarding Masterclass'

Image
'Storyboarding Masterclass' by Sam Horton In todays lesson for Creative Media Practice - we have had the opportunity to attend a talk by Sam Horton, an industry specialist in storyboarding. 'Storyboarding Masterclass' I found to be a very interesting talk - with many takeaways about how this process works in industry. I find this to be advantageous as receiving this information from someone who has industry experience is useful as it gives, us students, insight in to industry terminology and practices we otherwise would not have known had we not attended this talk.  In this post - I will compile and elaborate on notes that I taken during this talk, as well as giving background on Sam Horton's work and what I skills I have learned from attending this talk. In researching Sam Horton - I typed his name in to Google and was met with his online digital portfolio. This is a good thing to have, as it gives me information about Sam Horton's career as well as giving me ...

Progression: Showreel Improvements:

Image
Showreel reflections: Upon receiving feedback from the first draft of my showreel I have made improvements and created a new version of my showreel based on this feedback. What changes will I make for the second rendition of my showreel? Upon reflection I realised that I had left out many key elements that should have been included in my initial draft of the showreel, such as my previous video-graphical projects that I had completed in my first year of college. In the initial draft I included much photography that while useful in it's own right didn't accurately portray the work I had completed within my time studying Creative Media Practice. I had also ran in to issues concerning audio in the rendering process of my initial showreel - with it not having audio despite me including it in my timeline on Premiere Pro whilst creating it. This was brought to my attention after I had already received feedback from my initial draft. I will make sure to include aud...

Progression: Showreel

Image
What is a Showreel? A showreel  is a short sequence of edited video or film footage which showcases a person's previous work in their respective field. Showreels can  also be referred to as a demo reel or a sizzle reel. Showreels can be used in several different mediums, be it: photography, graphic design, videography etc. This means there are many different  kinds of showreels involved in filmmaking and other media. Filmmakers often use showreels but other career paths require this similarly, including actors, animators, lighting designers, editors, photographers, and models. Showreels are usually two to three minutes in running time, as to maintain the viewers attention. With this in mind, it is best that the showreel does not include elongated clips as to keep the viewers attention as well as showing a diverse range of products that reflect a range of skills on the behalf of the person making it. One can typically supplement a portfolio wi...
